London SparkNotes
Welcome to London SparkNotes!
London by Edward Rutherfurd is a historical fiction novel about the history of the London area, including culture, social climates, and hardships. Each chapter takes place a rough 'lifetime' since the previous chapter. This is one of the major reasons this is a hard book to like because as you learn to love characters and their underdog stories, they don't stick around for long.
This book is assigned as a parallel reading novel in British Literature classes around the world. When I realized there was a quiz almost every two weeks on each chapter of this novel, I did what I do with all book assignments: google it! To my surprise, this book has left virtually no imprint on the internet despite the large amount of schools that assign it to their students. So, as a way to study up for a London Final Exam, I decided to make this: a collection of study guides, quizzes, and research created by myself and fellow classmates, condensed down into chapter-by-chapter summaries.
Once all content for the first 9 chapters is complete, I will begin working on the second half.
Every chapter of London has a main plot or story. This is easy to identify, as it is usually the leading story at the opening of the chapter, or at the very least the title of the chapter. Behind the main plot are usually 2-3 sub-plots that are in some way related to the main plot either directly or just simply have the same moral story by the end. In the study guides, we identify these sub-plots as well as main and secondary characters, chapter-by-chapter! We keep track of every family through every era!
The practice chapter quizzes are not made by me. These are the real questions on the real quizzes we had. You can even take the multiple choice quizzes right here and get graded. As far as written/short answer questions, I share all the ones that could possibly be asked to my knowledge for you to practice or at least make sure you know the general answer too!
I really hope this website helps make this book less painful to understand. Without having to read this book alone, you may find the actual stories sort of awesome! Trust me, I sure wish I had chapter summaries, study guides, practice quizzes, and plot analyses to use when I first had to read this! So, without further a due, here is London SparkNotes.
